1876 ($2,000/5,500) is always a favorite for its centennial value, and while it was once a sleeper in this series those days are over. Scarce in mint state, especially if fully brilliant and red. Two varieties from the period, 1865 Plain 5 ($750/4,500) and 1864 with L ($2,200/4,000) are next toughest to find in MS65RD. The 1864 w/L has been a valued rarity in high grade for a long time, the 1865 Plain 5 has only recently reached the value it deserves in 65+ red.
