1872 ($7,000/30,000) is basically impossible to find in 100% RD condition. Robert D. LeBlanc wrote that superb gems are "probably rarer than a high relief 20" back in 1980 when their cost was less than $2000, and that may have been an understatement. In the higher grades it's even rarer than 1877. Streaky toning appears on virtually all red graded coins as well as soft strikes of the upper wreath and shield. 1877 will always be the centerpiece of an Indian cent collection and sexier date of the two, but 1872 is the real stopper to a mint red set.
