The lower feather formation of the 1886 Type II is the most obvious of the design modifications, but other more subtle changes make pre & post 1886 Indian Heads slightly different coins. Using an 1880 and 1894 for comparison, the most obvious differences of the new profile design are the lowered chin line to the neck, the less rounded nostril, the straighter less sloped nose, and the slightly raised front eyebrow. The cheek also displays a more gradual rise in relief and never quite reaches the level of the original design.
