The reverse was redesigned in 1860, again possibly due to striking issues on the hard copper-nickel.. It featured a wreath of oak and other leaves with a narrow shield at the top, a modification of the harp-like shield from earlier patterns. The spacing of the letters ONE CENT on the 1860 issues also differs from that on the 1859 cent. The Indian Head obverse design (with two future modifications), wreath and narrow shield remained standard for the series through its end in 1909.
